Questions from External Users
- I am not a student or an official members of TUT, but am thinking about using the TUT Library. If possible, I would like to use the library as a study space.Please let me know if it is possible to do so. (The library use policy states"The purpose of using the library should be limited to reading materials shelved in TUT Library.")
- As you pointed out, external users can use this library only for the purpose of
reading materials in principle.This means that"using the library for a study space" is not permitted.
However, please note that you can use the library if you are studying using materials in the library, such as books, magazines, dictionaries, etc. Please come to our library to study.
Upon your arrival at the library, contact our library staff at the Library Counter near the Front Entrance to receive an ID Card for visitors, which you can use to enter the reading room.
- I heard that external users can use the library. Please let me know where I can get an ID card.
- Come to the TUT Library in person and make an application at the counter.
If you wish to borrow books from the library, present a form of identification (calling/business cards are not acceptable), and fill out a "TUT Library Use Application" (available at the counter).Your ID card will be issued on the same day.
- I would like to drive to the library. Can I park my car at the library? If parking is not available at the library, is there any private parking lot nearby? If there are parking spaces available at the library, do I have to pay a fee to use it?
- You may use parking spaces for free of charge.Enter from the main gate and you will see a guard station nearby.Get a temporary admission pass at the station and place it in your dashboard after parking your car so that it can be seen from the outside. (Please note that your car may be chained if you park without permission.)
- I would like to check out journals or get photocopies of papers.
However, according to the Library Guide, magazines, journals and papers are for reference only.
Can I make a photocopies of such materials inside the library?
- As stated in the Library Guide, papers, etc.are not available for circulation. However, you may read and make photocopies of them inside the library. Please note that you are permitted to make photocopies of "up to half of the total number of pages" due to copyright restrictions.
- How can I make photocopies of materials in the library?
- Please use the coin-operated photocopiers at the library.
Once you have made photocopies of materials in the library, fill out the necessary information, such as title or pages of the paper that you have made a photocopy of, in the"Photocopy Application Form (for Self-service Copiers)", which is placed next to each copier.
If you are not sure how to fill out the application form, ask the staff at the library.
Making photocopies of materials in the library is subject to the Copyright Act.
Be sure to strictly observe the acceptable range below when copying materials.
Acceptable Range of Photocopying Materials of the TUT Library - Only part, not all pages, of each book (up to half of the total number of pages) may be photocopied.
- All pages of an article or other item published in a periodical may be photocopied on the condition that a set period of time has passed since its publication (typically after the release of the next issue or three months after publication).
- Only one copy may be made per person.
- Copying is permitted for research purposes only.
- Re-copying is not permitted.
- Re-distribution is not permitted.
- I searched for library materials on TUT's website, and the result showed"Laboratory"
as the location of the material.What does this mean?
Can I read or borrow this material?
- If"Laboratory" is displayed as the location, you cannot borrow the material since it is managed
and owned by individual faculty members and not housed in the library.
Thus, it is not available for reading and circulation.Thank you for your understanding.
- May I read doctoral dissertations?

Doctoral dissertations are also available for search in theToyohashi University of Technology Academic Institutional Repository.
These dissertations (in book form) are for reference only and not available for circulation.Please read them in the library.
Only doctoral dissertations that have permission from the author are made available in the Toyohashi University of Technology Academic Institutional Repository.
Furthermore, doctoral dissertations written in and after April 2013 are required to be published on the Internet.Therefore, dissertations from this time onwards are made public in the Toyohashi University of Technology Academic Institutional Repository except under unavoidable circumstances.
- Does the TUT Library carry books written in Arabic?
- We have confirmed that the library has several books, mainly dictionaries and books relating to the Koran.
As far as books written in Arabic are concerned, the library carries just one.
Please find below the process to search materials on your own.
(1) First, access the official website of the TUT Library. https://lib.tut.ac.jp/index_e.html
(2) Click on "Detail Search" on the [Quick Search] page.
(3) In the Detail Search menu, enter [Arabic] in the [Language] section (press the"Language" button next to it and select Arabic from the language list).Then, click on"Search" to search materials.
(4) You will find a list of Arabic-related books (including books written in Japanese with index or some other part using Arabic).
Follow the above steps and you will be able to search for Arabic-related books housed in this library.
