FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):

About Databases

Q: Where can we use the databases?
The databases can be accessed from a personal computer connected to the on-campus LAN of Toyohashi University of Technology.
Q: Can I access the databases from my home?
Electronic journals, electronic books, and databases that our University has made a contract for are only available for individuals inside the University. Since these e-documents are certified with an IP address, they cannot be accessed from outside the University in principle.

However, with the use of the "gakunin" service (service approved by the University) and a VPN connection, using an individual account that has been registered, to connect to the campus network, the databases can be used from places outside the University, such as your home or a business trip destination.

Electronic materials can be obtained via the link (approved by the University) in the explanatory note for the "Electronic journals & electronic books & & databases" through the "gakunin" service, and the electronic materials can be obtained via the link through a VPN connection.
For details, please see the page of " Use from outside the University ".

About the electronic journals & electronic books

Q: When I try to access the entire text, the screen displayed a request for my ID and password. What should I do?
Currently, there is no electronic journal that our University has made a subscription contract for that requires your ID or password.

If you are requested to provide your ID and password, you may be trying to read a journal for which we have not made a subscription contract, or a paper from a year outside the scope of our contract. In that case, you cannot use the electronic journal.

If you need that journal, please make an application at the Library to order a copy of the journal from another organization.
What do "TUT Journal Linker's electronic collection 1998-" and "Years of materials owned by the Library for search:1998-present"mean?
This means that the entire texts of literature issued from 1998 to the present are available. So, in this case, with regard to literature issued within or before 1997, even if the "Table of contents" and "Abstract" are available, the entire text cannot be accessed.

Full-text available journals (articles) are marked with "Full Access", "Full text access", "Download PDF", or an unlocked mark.
In addition, "open access" and "Free" papers are also available in full text.
Can I use the electronic journals and electronic books at home?
Electronic journals, electronic books and databases for which our University has made a subscription contract are only available for individuals inside the University. Since these e-documents are certified with an IP address, they cannot be used from outside the University in principle.

However, with the use of the "gakunin" service (service approved by the University) and a VPN connection, using an individual account that has been registered, to connect to the campus network, these documents can be used from places outside the University, such as your home or a business trip destination.

Electronic materials can be obtained via the link ("approved by the University") in the explanatory note for the "Electronic journals & electronic books & database" through the "gakunin" service, and electronic materials can obtained via the link through a VPN connection.
For details, please see the page "use from outside the University".

Electronic journals with the indication "*open access" can be used at home for free.
Q: What is the number of simultaneous accesses?
The number of simultaneous accesses for Maruzen eBook Library and EBSCO ebooks is 1. If the number of people using the database exceeds 1, you will not be able to log in. Please wait for a while until other people have finished using the database, and try to log in again.

When you finish your search, be sure to finish it by clicking the LOGOUT button on the screen. If you finish your search by clicking "close" button of the browser, the connection will still remain, and other people may not be able to log in. Please be careful not to create such a situation.
